Sister SledgeSister Sledge rose to legendary status in the 'disco years' with such club classics as We are Family, Lost in Music, He's the Greatest Dancer and Thinking of You Neil joined the group when he was 24 and stayed with Sledge for over a year touring all over the world. He learnt a lot about gospel music during this period as the Sisters regularly sound checked with their favourite gospel songs which they had grown up singing in their local church. During a tour in the Middle East, Neil and drummer Simon Pearson had a narrow escape.... "We had been playing a gig on the edge of a beach, during the day we had spent some time swimming at the beach and after the show we decided to go for another swim as it was warm and the water was like a millpond. However as we were running towards the water to dive in a shriek came from a local man begging us not to go in. As we listened to the man he continued to explain that the bay was used by sharks to sleep at night ..........Phewee!!!" |
